US Gallons to US Gills (gal to gi)
1 US gallon equals 32 US gills exactly.
How to convert US gallons to US gills
To convert US gallons to US gills, multiply the number of US gallons by 32. This factor is exact. To go the other way, multiply US gills by 0.03125.
US gills = US gallons × 32
Example: 10 US gallons = 320 US gills.
Pints, quarts, gallons and fluid ounces differ between the US and the UK. Units are labeled 'US' or 'imperial' to avoid confusion.
About these units
US Gallon (gal)
Exactly 231 cubic inches or 3.785411784 liters (128 US fluid ounces). About 17% smaller than the imperial gallon.
The US gallon is a survivor of English wine trade. Around 1706, a statute in Queen Anne's reign fixed the wine gallon at exactly 231 cubic inches, settling confusion among the competing gallons for wine, ale and corn. British colonies in North America used that wine gallon, and in 1824 Britain replaced all its gallons with a new imperial one while the United States kept the old measure. It was adopted as the legal US standard in 1836 and is still defined as exactly 231 cubic inches, or 3.785411784 liters.
That makes the US gallon about 17 percent smaller than the imperial gallon, a difference that explains why American and British fuel-economy figures cannot be compared directly. Everyday uses are milk jugs, paint cans and gasoline pumps. One gallon divides evenly into four quarts, eight pints, sixteen cups and 128 fluid ounces. A gallon of water weighs a little over 8 pounds, an easy figure to remember when loading a car with water jugs.
1 US gallon = 3.785411784 liters (exactly).

US Gill (gi)
Four US fluid ounces (118.29 mL), a quarter of a pint. A traditional measure for spirits.
Pour a quarter of a pint and the result is a gill, a small liquid measure that is now mostly a matter for spirits and old books. In the United States the gill is 4 fluid ounces, about 118.3 mL, because the US pint is 16 fluid ounces. The British imperial gill is a quarter of the larger imperial pint: 5 imperial fluid ounces, about 142.1 mL, so the two countries' gills differ by roughly a fifth.
Local usage added more variety. Pub spirit measures in Britain and Ireland were fractions of a gill: 1/6 gill (23.7 mL) in England and Wales, 1/4 gill (35.5 mL) in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, and 1/5 gill (28.4 mL) on the Isle of Man until 2022. In northern England a half pint was sometimes called a gill. After metrication most British pubs moved to 25 or 35 mL. NIST gives the US gill as 0.118294 L.
1 US gill = 0.1182941183 liters (approximately).
