US Cups to US Gills (cup to gi)
1 US cup equals 2 US gills exactly.
How to convert US cups to US gills
To convert US cups to US gills, multiply the number of US cups by 2. This factor is exact. To go the other way, multiply US gills by 0.5.
US gills = US cups × 2
Example: 10 US cups = 20 US gills.
Pints, quarts, gallons and fluid ounces differ between the US and the UK. Units are labeled 'US' or 'imperial' to avoid confusion.
About these units
US Cup (cup)
One sixteenth of a US gallon, 236.588 mL (8 US fluid ounces). The standard US recipe cup.
Cups began as household drinking vessels, not scientific units, which is why they remain the messiest measures in the kitchen. The US customary cup was defined by slicing up the gallon: half a pint, or eight US fluid ounces, about 236.6 milliliters. Unlike the larger units, nobody ever fixed it to a physical vessel, so it exists only as a fraction of the gallon.
The customary cup is not the only American cup. For nutrition labels, US regulation defines a cup as exactly 240 milliliters, a rounder figure that sits slightly above the customary size. Packaged foods therefore list a serving in the legal cup while a measuring cup from the hardware store follows the customary definition. The gap is 3.4 milliliters, which hardly matters for soup but can matter in baking. Cup measures also hide the weight of dry ingredients, since a cup of sifted flour and a cup of packed flour differ substantially, which is why much of the world prefers grams.
1 US cup = 0.2365882365 liters (exactly).

US Gill (gi)
Four US fluid ounces (118.29 mL), a quarter of a pint. A traditional measure for spirits.
Pour a quarter of a pint and the result is a gill, a small liquid measure that is now mostly a matter for spirits and old books. In the United States the gill is 4 fluid ounces, about 118.3 mL, because the US pint is 16 fluid ounces. The British imperial gill is a quarter of the larger imperial pint: 5 imperial fluid ounces, about 142.1 mL, so the two countries' gills differ by roughly a fifth.
Local usage added more variety. Pub spirit measures in Britain and Ireland were fractions of a gill: 1/6 gill (23.7 mL) in England and Wales, 1/4 gill (35.5 mL) in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, and 1/5 gill (28.4 mL) on the Isle of Man until 2022. In northern England a half pint was sometimes called a gill. After metrication most British pubs moved to 25 or 35 mL. NIST gives the US gill as 0.118294 L.
1 US gill = 0.1182941183 liters (approximately).
