Degree Per Second (°/s)

ScientificCurrent unit

One 360th of a hertz: one full turn in 360 seconds. A measure of rotation rate.

1 degree per second = 0.002777777778 hertz (approximately).

1 degree per second = 0.002777777778 hertz

About the degree per second

Motion sensors and camera gear tend to report turning speed in degrees per second, a unit that people can picture more readily than radians. Three-axis gyroscopes in phones, tablets and game controllers measure the rate of rotation in roll, pitch and yaw, and the rate is commonly given in these degrees. A full turn is 360 degrees, so a device spinning once each second registers 360 degrees per second.

Converting to frequency is a division by 360. One degree per second is 1/360 hertz, about 0.002778 Hz, the figure used here. In terms of angular velocity it equals pi divided by 180 rad/s, about 0.01745, and 6 degrees per second equals one revolution per minute. Degrees per second are not an SI unit, though the degree itself is accepted for use alongside the SI.
