Crores to Quadrillions (crore to quad)

1 crore equals 1×10⁻⁸ quadrillions exactly.

1 crore = 1×10⁻⁸ quadrillions

How to convert crores to quadrillions

To convert crores to quadrillions, multiply the number of crores by 1×10⁻⁸. This factor is exact. To go the other way, multiply quadrillions by 100,000,000.

quadrillions = crores × 1×10⁻⁸

Example: 10 crores = 1×10⁻⁷ quadrillions.

Large-number names differ around the world: this site uses the short scale (billion = 10⁹) by default, and lists the long-scale billion separately.

About these units

Crore (crore)

Indian subcontinentCurrent unit

Ten million (10⁷), or one hundred lakh. Written 1,00,00,000 in the Indian numbering system.

Sanskrit had separate words for most powers of ten from 100 up to 10 to the 19th. The crore comes from one of them: the Prakrit kroḍi, which derives from the Sanskrit koṭi, and in Hindi and Urdu it is karoṛ. In Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam the cognate is kōṭi. Outside South Asia, koṭi travelled mostly through Buddhist texts, and in Indonesian and Malay keti means 100,000, a lakh, instead of ten million.

A crore is 100 lakh, or 10,000,000, and is written 1,00,00,000 in Indian grouping. It is the natural unit for large sums of money in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan, so 150,000,000 rupees is 15 crore rupees. For amounts in the trillions, the system's next named units, arab and kharab, are rarely used, so people say lakh crore for 10 to the 12th. Nepal and Sri Lanka both used the system in the past but have moved to international numbering in recent years.

1 crore = 10,000,000 pieces (exactly).

Quadrillion (quad)

General & non-SICurrent unit

10¹⁵ in the short scale.

Quadrillion is 10¹⁵, a thousand trillion, on the short scale, and it is a number most people meet only through energy statistics. The U.S. Energy Information Administration defines a quad as a quadrillion British thermal units and notes that national energy use typically reaches quadrillions of Btu. Its examples include 35.43 quads from petroleum, 33.61 from natural gas, and 8.17 from coal.

The name uses the Latin quadri-, four. It appears among the terms in Nicolas Chuquet's unpublished manuscript of 1484, alongside byllion and tryllion. On the long scale the same 10¹⁵ is called a billiard, and a quadrillion means 10²⁴. The SI prefix for 10¹⁵ is peta-. A quadrillion seconds is about 31.7 million years.

1 quadrillion = 1×10¹⁵ pieces (exactly).
