Milliliters to Jiggers (mL to jigger)

1 milliliter equals 0.0225426818 jiggers (rounded).

1 milliliter = 0.0225426818 jiggers

How to convert milliliters to jiggers

To convert milliliters to jiggers, multiply the number of milliliters by 0.0225426818. The factor is rounded to 10 significant digits. To go the other way, multiply jiggers by 44.36029434 (rounded).

jiggers = milliliters × 0.0225426818

Example: 10 milliliters = 0.225426818 jiggers.

Pints, quarts, gallons and fluid ounces differ between the US and the UK. Units are labeled 'US' or 'imperial' to avoid confusion.

About these units

Milliliter (mL)

Metric (SI)Current unit

One thousandth of a liter, or exactly 1 cubic centimeter. Used for medicine, cooking and small containers.

Milliliters inherit everything from the liter, since the prefix simply means one thousandth. Because the liter is a cubic decimeter, a milliliter works out to exactly one cubic centimeter, a coincidence the metric system built in on purpose so that volume, length and mass interlock. One milliliter of water has a mass of about one gram, so a dosing syringe, a kitchen scale and a measuring jug can all be checked against one another.

Today milliliters dominate wherever small amounts must be measured precisely: medicine, flavorings, perfume, shampoo and the fine print on drink labels. Spelling is a mild regional split, with uppercase mL preferred in the United States, Canada and Australia and lowercase ml common in the UK and Europe. For scale, a US teaspoon is just under 5 mL, a US tablespoon is about 14.8 mL, and the US nutrition-label cup is exactly 240 mL, so one such cup is 240 of these tiny units.

1 milliliter = 0.001 liters (exactly).

Jigger (jigger)

Cooking & barTraditional unit (still used in some regions)

1.5 US fluid ounces (44.36 mL). A bar measure for spirits; sizes vary.

As a bartending term, jigger appeared in the United States in the early nineteenth century for a small measure of spirits or wine. A double-ended stainless steel jigger was patented in 1893 by Cornelius Dungan of Chicago. Wikipedia reports that before Prohibition an American jigger was about 2 US fluid ounces, or 59 mL, and that since the late twentieth century it has usually meant 1.5 US fluid ounces, about 44 mL.

Sizes differ by country and by habit. Wikipedia gives single measures of 30 to 44 mL in the United States, 30 mL in Australia, and 25 or 35 mL in the United Kingdom. No official single-shot size exists in the United States except in Utah, where a shot is legally 1.5 US fluid ounces. The figure used here is that modern American 1.5 US fluid ounces, 44.36 mL. A jigger is not part of SI or any national measures law, and NIST lists no jigger.

1 jigger = 0.04436029434 liters (approximately).
