Kilometers Per Hour to Furlongs Per Fortnight (km/h to fur/ftn)

1 kilometer per hour equals 1,670.245765 furlongs per fortnight (rounded).

1 kilometer per hour = 1,670.245765 furlongs per fortnight

How to convert kilometers per hour to furlongs per fortnight

To convert kilometers per hour to furlongs per fortnight, multiply the number of kilometers per hour by 1,670.245765. The factor is rounded to 10 significant digits. To go the other way, multiply furlongs per fortnight by 0.0005987142857 (rounded).

furlongs per fortnight = kilometers per hour × 1,670.245765

Example: 10 kilometers per hour = 16,702.45765 furlongs per fortnight.

About these units

Kilometer Per Hour (km/h)

Metric (SI)Current unit

The standard unit for road speeds in most countries: 1 km/h is about 0.2778 m/s.

Myriameters per hour came first, at least in French. Although the meter was defined in 1799, speeds were initially quoted using the myriameter of 10,000 meters, and the phrase myriamètres par heure appears in 1802. The Dutch adopted the kilometer in 1817 under the name mijl. English abbreviations only appeared in the late nineteenth century, and many competing forms followed, from k. p. h. in 1889 to KMPH in 1940. Reuters and The Economist still prefer kph.

SI treats km/h as a unit symbol, not an abbreviation, and it is the generally preferred form. The European Union required SI usage in 1972, and a 1975 directive requires km/h on speedometers in all languages. In the United States a 1988 NHTSA rule allowed km/h on speedometers. Exactly 3.6 km/h make 1 m/s, one mile per hour is exactly 1.609344 km/h, and one knot is exactly 1.852 km/h. Road signs and speed limits in most of the world use it.

1 kilometer per hour = 0.2777777778 meters per second (approximately).

Furlong Per Fortnight (fur/ftn)

Imperial (British)Traditional unit (still used in some regions)

About 0.000166 m/s. A joke unit made of two archaic units, a standard classroom example of a deliberately absurd speed.

Furlong per fortnight is a deliberately silly speed, made from two obsolete English units. Furlong combines Old English words for furrow and long, the distance a team of oxen could plough without resting, and it is now fixed at 201.168 m. Fortnight descends from Old English for fourteen nights and equals 1,209,600 seconds.

Dividing one by the other gives about 1.663 x 10^-4 m/s, or 0.1663 mm/s. That is nearly 1 cm/min and roughly the speed of the tip of a short minute hand. The unit belongs to the humorous FFF system and turns up in classroom examples of dimensional analysis. In it, the speed of light is about 1.8026 x 10^12 furlongs per fortnight, which checks against 299,792,458 divided by 1.663 x 10^-4.

1 furlong per fortnight = 0.0001663095238 meters per second (approximately).
