Centimeters to Sabbath Days' Journeys (cm to sabbath)
1 centimeter equals 0.000009259259259 Sabbath days' journeys (rounded).
How to convert centimeters to Sabbath days' journeys
To convert centimeters to Sabbath days' journeys, multiply the number of centimeters by 0.000009259259259. The factor is rounded to 10 significant digits. To go the other way, multiply Sabbath days' journeys by 108,000.
Sabbath days' journeys = centimeters × 0.000009259259259
Example: 10 centimeters = 0.00009259259259 Sabbath days' journeys.
Approximate value. Standards for the Sabbath day's journey varied by place and period, so this converter uses the most commonly cited value. Treat results as estimates, not exact figures.
About these units
Centimeter (cm)
One hundredth of a meter. Used for body measurements, clothing and everyday objects.
Scientists, rather than shopkeepers, gave the centimeter its place. In 1832 Carl Friedrich Gauss proposed a system of absolute units built on length, mass and time, choosing the millimeter, milligram and second. In 1873 a committee of the British Association for the Advancement of Science, whose members included James Clerk Maxwell and William Thomson (Lord Kelvin), recommended the centimeter, gram and second instead. That CGS system dominated physics for decades, until the metre-kilogram-second system replaced it in the mid-twentieth century and led to SI.
CGS units proved awkward for rooms and buildings, which run to hundreds of centimeters, but the centimeter itself never went away. It is still the everyday unit for height, clothing and small objects, and it appears in map scales and rainfall reports. An adult fingernail is roughly one centimeter wide, and a milliliter is defined as exactly one cubic centimeter. An inch is exactly 2.54 centimeters. The CGS system itself survives mainly in theoretical physics and astrophysics, where Gaussian units are still common.
1 centimeter = 0.01 meters (exactly).

Sabbath Day's Journey (sabbath)
About 2,000 cubits (roughly 1.08 km), the distance a person could walk on the Sabbath according to rabbinic tradition.
Jewish law limits how far a person may travel from a town on the Sabbath, and that limit is the techum shabbat. It is set at 2,000 cubits beyond the settlement boundary, the same distance known as a biblical mile. The phrase Sabbath day's journey is the traditional English name, and the distance was also used to measure the spacing of towns in the Herodian era, for instance Sepphoris to Tiberias at 18 such miles.
The metric value depends on the cubit chosen. Taking a cubit of 46 to 60 cm gives a range of about 960 m to 1,152 m, and the figure used here, about 1.08 km, comes from the 54 cm rabbinic cubit. That is about two thirds of an English statute mile, or roughly six Greek stadia. Most authorities reckon it at about 18 minutes of walking, while Maimonides gave 20 to 24 minutes. An eruv techumin can add a second mile to the permitted limit.
1 Sabbath day's journey = 1,080 meters (approximately).
