Myriads to Millions (myriad to M)
1 myriad equals 0.01 millions exactly.
How to convert myriads to millions
To convert myriads to millions, multiply the number of myriads by 0.01. This factor is exact. To go the other way, multiply millions by 100.
millions = myriads × 0.01
Example: 10 myriads = 0.1 millions.
Large-number names differ around the world: this site uses the short scale (billion = 10⁹) by default, and lists the long-scale billion separately.
About these units
Myriad (myriad)
Ten thousand. The word comes from Greek; in Chinese, Japanese and Korean numbers are grouped in myriads (萬/万) rather than thousands.
Greek arithmetic had a single word for ten thousand, murias, which gave English the word myriad. Its own origin is uncertain. Greek numerals wrote it with a capital mu, and Archimedes used the myriad myriad, or one hundred million, as the base of the large-number scheme in his Sand Reckoner.
English speakers now use myriad mostly to mean a vast, unspecified number, and the exact 10,000 survives mainly in translations from Greek, Latin or Chinese. Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese still count in groups of 10,000, so that one million is expressed as one hundred wan. Other languages have a dedicated word as well, including Sanskrit ayuta, Old Turkic tumen and Hebrew revava. The prefix myria- stood for 10,000 in the original French metric system of 1795 but fell out of use, and a myriad is also a 100 kilometer grid square in British and US military mapping.
1 myriad = 10,000 pieces (exactly).

Million (M)
One million (10⁶).
Million comes from Italian. Old Italian milione was built from mille, a thousand, plus an augmentative ending, so it began as something like a big thousand. The name proved useful as a stem: by 1475 the French mathematician Jehan Adam was already building larger names from it, bymillion and trimillion, for 10¹² and 10¹⁸. The short and long scales agree on the million itself, 1,000,000 or 10⁶, and diverge only for the larger names. The SI prefix mega- stands for 10⁶.
Millions are hard to feel. Counting out a million items one by one is famously laborious, yet a million seconds lasts only about 11.57 days. A billion seconds, by contrast, is roughly 31.7 years.
1 million = 1,000,000 pieces (exactly).
